It’s a theme public health officials return to, day after day: The best, and perhaps the only, way to conquer the coronavirus is for #AllOfUS to work together, remain united as one nation, indivisible. This is how we save as many lives as possible and get to the other side of the crisis.
Whether they’ve been in the U.S. for months or a lifetime—or their families have been here for generations—doctors, nurses, home health aides, cleaners or janitors, cashiers, childcare providers, delivery drivers, and farmworkers are out there, responding to, helping contain, and supporting us all through the COVID-19 pandemic.
As this crisis develops, Americans, regardless of where we were born, are standing shoulder to shoulder, and all of our contributions to the economy and society are ever more indispensable.
And in a time of pandemic, we are reminded of what matters: that all human beings are made in the image of God, and that each, therefore, carries an inherent dignity; that all human life is precious; and, that we all need one another.
We have enough to fear; we don’t need to fear each other.
COVID-19, meanwhile, affects us all. It does not care what we have or don’t have, where we come from, or how long we’ve been here. It only exploits our vulnerabilities as human beings.
To beat COVID-19, we have to work together and realize the promise of America; live up to the spirit of our founding ideals, the spirit of a more perfect union, the spirit of America.
The essential workers and caregivers at the heart of the #AllOfUS effort — nurses, home health aides, farmworkers, childcare providers — give their energy to others daily, often without understanding why some days feel depleted while others feel limitless. Where daily energy actually comes from breaks that down clearly, covering the physical, mental, and emotional sources that determine whether you show up in Hunter mode or burn out in Sheep mode.
We have the opportunity to leverage the full strength of what it means to believe, and act, as one America.
